Selecting a pouching system

The first step in living with your stoma is selecting the proper pouching system for your unique needs and lifestyle. ConvaTec offers a breadth of options designed to fit these needs.

ConvaTec pouching systems come in three varieties:

One-piece system

In a one-piece system, the pouch and skin barrier are combined into a single unit. Designed for discretion, these systems offer simplicity and flexibility in a low-profile system. They are available in cut-to-fit and pre-cut adhesive types in drainable, closed-end and urostomy pouches.

ConvaTec’s one-piece systems are ActiveLife® and Esteem®ostomy systems, both of which have a low profile and are easy to apply.

Traditional two-piece system

In a two-piece system, the pouch and skin barrier are two separate pieces that allow you to change the pouch without removing the skin barrier. The pouch and skin barrier are coupled together with a plastic ring. You can hear and feel the system securely lock into place. ConvaTec’s traditional two-piece system, SUR-FIT Natura®ostomy system offers a variety of drainable, closed, and urostomy pouches. The skin barriers, available in Stomahesive® or Durahesive® technologies, are designed to protect peristomal skin.

Adhesive Coupling Technology™

With ConvaTec’s two-piece Adhesive Coupling Technology™ system, the pouch and skin barrier are coupled together with a foam adhesive ring and “Landing Zone”—eliminating the need for rigid plastic coupling rings found in traditional two-piece systems. The foam coupling mechanism improves flexibility over traditional two-piece systems and has a lower profile under clothing, while enabling you to change your pouch without removing the skin barrier. Skin barriers are available in Stomahesive® and Durahesive® technologies .

The Esteem synergy® ostomy system with Adhesive Coupling Technology™ is available in drainable, closed-end, and urostomy pouches.
